Yeah, it may come as a surprise to many: “Naijaloaded PC theme cloned on Carrington? Isn’t Carrington a mobile theme?”
Of course, they are right. Carrington mobile, as the name itself implies, is built for mobile. However, nothing is impossible.
REASON FOR THE THEME
The idea of creating this theme sprung from a productive discussion I had with a colleague.. The predominant subject centered around the flexibility of PHP and other programming languages and how they can be used to manipulate the web, no matter the restriction. Hardly had we gone far in the discussion when he threw a challenge, which is: “can you manipulate a theme without sidebar, preferably a mobile theme, and make it have one using PHP?” He then went further to specify I clone Naijaloaded desktop theme on Carrington Mobile theme within 8 hours.
I smiled and accepted and that’s how this theme was born.
Anyway, back to the topic. After manipulating Carrington mobile theme, with lots of codes, to clone Naijaloaded, I decided to share it with you guys.
Please you should note that this was an experiment so you shouldn’t expect anything perfect. But I am sure you will enjoy it, even though I haven’t sufficiently tested it.
Installation is easy as usual. However, the design of this particular theme is different from the regular one you are used to – I mean the Carrington. Lots of codes have been used, so I urge those that are going to edit the theme to be focus and not be cowed by the huge amount of codes deployed to manipulate the theme.
I will give basic tutorials on how and where to edit.
Upload the theme and activate. Once this is done, it becomes functional and you can actually run your blog without doing anything. However, if you want to experience all the features, read step 2…
You may want to edit the files to tweak it… I strongly suggest you use your own pictures, instead of Naijaloaded’s and host them on your own site.
Only 3 files are used: header-default.php, header.php and bottom.php
Header Default.php: the css, meta description, and other items relating to header are here.
bottom.php: for footer editing, check here…
Header.php: this is the engine of this theme. You must be very careful here and make sure you back up your site when making changes. Everything is here! Post, page, archive, everything! And yes, it was made possible! Since I wasn’t allowed to create files, I had to make do with what I had!
THINGS TO EDIT
To be honest, there’s nothing much to edit, except maybe the styling, which you can do at headerdefault.php or edit category.
You’ll see SONG OF THE DAY, VIDEO OF THE DAY… I think this is the only thing that really needs to be changed. All you have to do is to create your own categories and replace the numbers with mine.
This is the code you should look for
<?php query_posts('cat=3&showposts=4'); while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>
Replace 3 with the ID of your own category. I don’t recommend changing the number of posts you want to display unless you know what you are doing.
Create “mp3.php” and “trending.php” pages. They should be in small letters. Read this thread to learn how..
